happy thanksgiving!!!
it's
kinda sad, but i've never really cared much for this day. okay, before
you start gasping and sending hate-mail, let me explain. when you think
of thanksgiving, you think of large family gatherings with grandparents,
aunts, uncles, cousins, etc. etc. etc. with a huge turkey and all the
trimmings... well, in my family, it's me, mom and dad. our closest
relatives are my aunt and uncle in georgia. the rest of our family is
still in korea. so this festive family holiday is difficult to look
forward to when it's like any other day, with me and my parents. it
wasn't until i was in high school that we started spending thanksgiving
with our "extended" family of family friends from my parent's church. it
was great! we had your traditional turkey dinner, with korean side
dishes along with the cranberry sauce and stuffing. but then, as the
kids grew older, got married, moved far away, had kids, it slowly
dwindled and last year, it was two families, with me and just one other
guy left. this year, my parent's friends are hosting a party for their
closest friends, and i chose not to join them. what?? thanksgiving
without family? for shame. well, after some thought, w and i decided to
just have a small, intimate thanksgiving just the two of us, with turkey
and all. i bought all the ingredients for our feast, and was informed
last night that we would be having one more guest for dinner (a mutual
friend, and actually the one who introduced us!). yikes! i love to cook,
but i've never tackled anything this major. i got to admit, i'm a bit
scared. *sigh* so wish me luck, as i prepare my turkey (okay, i cheated
and just bought the breast portions...i hate dark meat), classic
stuffing, garlic and herb mashed potatoes and gravy, cranberry sauce,
broccoli casserole, biscuits and pumpkin pie, all from scratch (except
the pie, i don't have 3 ovens). am i missing anything?
so before
i go, i will share with you what i am most thankful for this
thanksgiving. i am most thankful that i have a kitchen full of modern
appliances to help me thru this day. i'll tell you how it goes.

my hairdryer broke. so at 11pm, i decided
to go get a new one. as i'm searching through the aisles looking for
hairdryers, my eyes land on BUBBLES! no, not the kind you blow from a
wand dipped in suds. i'm talking powerpuff girls. i bought them. all
three. hee... it was a definite impulse buy. what am i gonna do with
three little powerpuff girls?? oh well, at least i got them on sale, 3
for just $11.98!! you think this is silly obsession? you should see my
hello kitty collection...all via ebay. scary.

i have enough static in my hair to light
a small town. seriously.
i think it has to do with wind, yeah?
when i was visiting e in chicago, i thought my hair would never lie
flat. it was awful! i really think windy day=staticky hair.

conversation at video rental place, while
trying to rent "the royal tenenbaums":
kid behind counter:
"have you seen this before?" me and w: "uh, no." w and
i look at each other with crinkled eyebrows, as if to say
"wtf?" kid behind counter: "did you hear it was
good?" w: "yeah, i've heard good things about it." kid
behind counter: "cuz i liked it, but i know a lot of peeople
didn't"
why would i be renting a movie i'd seen before, or one
that i've heard wasn't good? what a weirdo. i thought it was gonna be
like that one commercial where that guy is at the video rental place and
there are no movies left and he finally grabs one and the kid behind the
counter gives away the ending... yeah, something like that. you know
what i really hate? when people talk about the movies they just saw
while standing outside of the theater, surrounded by people that are
waiting in line to buy tix to that movie they're talking about. one
time, we were waiting for a movie to start cuz we had some time to kill,
and the people next to us were talking about it, and discussing the
ending!! i was so furious! i turned around and glared, i think they got
the hint.

the best part of my job is the perks!
my department got comp tix to last night's show, from one of our
vendors. our seats were soooo great, center stage, about 15 rows back.
it was simply put, amazing. i never knew the human body could do that.
it has now become my mission to go see every Cirque du Soleil show.
