.:: y'om say'n? word. ::.

a friend and former coworker wore this t-shirt on one casual friday, i recall it was orange, and the back of the shirt had the phrase "y'om say'n?" on it. i asked him, "what's that?" his response: "y'om say'n?" and from that day on, everytime he wore that shirt, he'd see me and say "y'om say'n?" and i'd respond with "word."

i don't usually like going out on school nights, but w really wanted to see steel pulse at the fillmore. i don't know their music at all. don't get me wrong, i like reggae, it's just that the extent of my reggae knowledge is basically bob marley. does ub40 count? anyways, it was an amazing show. it was also my first time at the fillmore, and i love it there! didn't get home til almost 1am, and had to get up early to take my car to the body shop. got to the car rental place, and she asked for my license. woops, left it in my jacket pocket. dangit! lucky for me, w hadn't left for work yet and was able to drop it off on his way. by the time he got there, all the compacts were taken, so i got the grand am. so i am temporarily driving a lovely pontiac. nice.

for some reason, w really got inspired to play tennis. he's never played, just kinda messed around i guess. i played in high school, but haven't touched a raquet in about 2 years. but today, we decided to just do it. w bought a $30 wilson and i pulled out my old head atlantis 660, and we had a blast! i think we've found a new summer sport. :) i just know i'm gonna pay for this tomorrow tho...i can already feel my muscles tightening in my forearm. *sigh* it was worth it.

while at the kinokuniya bookstore today, i saw martha stewart's living, in japanese. woa.

i picked up some things, we walked around, and got some green tea latte, YUM! i'm sure it's just full of sugar, but it's so damn good. hmph. every once in a while, i have to walk around and look thru all the cool stores in j-town, especially the car accessories stores, anime video store, stationery store, bookstore, and my fave, the store with all the gundam toys and car mini replicas. i always want to buy more, but have to remind myself that i still have to START working on my apex dome mugen nsx and cbr400. i'll get to it someday. :) along with all my other millions of hobbies i've accumulated.

in the words of my uncle, today was a very good day. :) my aunt (dad's baby sister) and uncle are here visiting their middle son, who moved to LA about a year ago. my cousin in LA has twin daughters!!! the last time i saw my aunt was my last visit to korea in 1985. *phew* my cousins and uncle, since we left korea back in 1980. holy smokes. so it was really nice to be around my family! my other cousin, the youngest boy, was also here. he's a year older than me. it was so weird to be around so many people who were all my family! all my life i've been used to just me and my parents, and all of a sudden i have an aunt and uncle and two cousins and i guess the little girls are my 2nd cousins (they are extremely adorable, btw) all at my parents house having dinner! it was great! they met w too, and they loved him! even with the language barrier, we still seemed to find a way to communicate. my aunt and uncle live in korea, so they don't know any english at all. neither does the youngest son. the oldest daughter wasn't able to make it, nor my middle cousin's wife. but it was so great to see them, and to see my dad with his sister. :) yes, today was a very good day.

i can't believe it, i finally finished fast food nation!!! it only took me like 10 months, sheesh. i took about 6 months off from reading it tho, just got distracted and read other books in between. so now i can finally change the "book i'm reading" section on my blog! hahaha... i'll try to read this next book faster tho, cuz i have a ton of books i want to read, and they're piling up on my nightstand!

so i've kept up not eating beef since june 23rd. i thought i would snap out of it, and eventually forget about the horrible things that go on in america's slaughterhouses, and revert to my meat-eating. but at j & b's wedding a few weeks ago, i saw they had tritip on the menu, and i was actually considering eating it. that is, until i actually saw the slab of meat, and felt so sickened. blech. i've never been so repulsed by food before. and the other thing i gave up? coffee!!!! holy toledo! i've been drinking coffee since my senior year in high school, when l and i used to go to the book garden cafe in milpitas. there i had my first capuccino, which i hated, and then my first cup of coffee. i loved it. i drank it here and there throughout college, mostly mochas. then when i started working in september of 2000, it was every monday-friday morning. it was more a ritual than anything else. i would get to work and have my coffee while i checked all my voicemails and emails. i didn't like the coffee at work, so i had my own coffee grinds at my desk and my very own one-cup french press. i treated myself to tully's every friday (i miss tully's!!!). i continued this ritual at my new job, but one day, i decided i don't want to drink coffee anymore. sure it tastes good, but it doesn't wake me up, so why am i drinking this? i proceeded to drink green tea in the morning instead. so my last cup of hot coffee was on may 30th. i've had a couple of frapuccinos since, but no coffee at all in the mornings. green tea just has a lot more health benefits, and it tastes good too. now, if i could just give up pastries!!! hahaha, i wish...

ohmigawd...I'M SOOOO SUNBURNT!!!

that's what i get for going to folsom lake, near sac, on one of the hottest days ever! i don't know how i get talked into these things. *sigh* the funniest part is that l and i are burnt in the same places, backs of legs and back. we spent way too much time on our stomachs apparently. l's mom suggested we spray vinegar, cuz she's heard that it helps with the burn. i refused but l had no choice (she's in much more pain than i am), and man she stunk! ahahaha...i shouldn't be mean, she really was in a lot of pain, poor girl.

i kinda feel weird whenever i visit l in sac. her mom actually lives just about 20 minutes away from sac, and i swear i'm always the only asian person there. i've yet to see another asian. i did see 2 african-americans. and a carload of latinos. that's about all the diversity you'll find in their 'hood. when we went to dinner, i was definitely the only non-caucasian in the entire restaurant. it was very odd.

i LOVE my new gym! the machines are brand new, it's super clean, and the best part...it's never crowded! i decided to try going at 6:30, after i got home from work (which i never would have even dreamed of doing at my old gym), and when i got there, there were soooo many cardio machines available! i'm taking full advantage of this before ppl start invading! whee!! it's interesting how a nice, clean, uncrowded gym is so motivating!

okay, i have some really annoying neighbors. the two guys above us are weirdos that don't do anything but sit at home all day (or smoke out in their car) cuz they're ALWAYS HOME. they look like little white haole thugs, saggy pants, crooked cap, sneakers, etc. the guy above my roommate's room is really loud, but thankfully the guy above my room just walks around a lot (i can hear the squeaky floorboards). then there's the guy below us, who thinks his place is a 24-hour club. it's never ending, this "thud thud thud" of music. one time i made w go and talk to him, cuz it was 1am and he was playing his horrible techno music soooo loud, i could FEEL it. ever since, nothing. but he's at it again. *sigh* i wanna move outta this place...but so many factors prevent that from actually happening. i hate it here.

i miss my emarker. i don't think i had it for even a year, then sony decided to stop the service. i didn't really appreciate what it did when i had it, but now that i don't, there are so many times i wish i still had it! it was just poor marketing on sony's part i guess, cuz i'm sure if more ppl knew what an emarker was, more ppl would have bought it. i can't even link it cuz it no longer exists! but basically, it was a handy little gadget that you use when you want to know what a certain song on the radio is. now, i just have to go singing the song to ppl and hoping someone knows what song i'm singing!

last minute, i decided to take today off. so i have a nice long 4-day in front of me! woohoo!

Summer Fun

1. Lemonade or Ice Cold Beer? definitely lemonade, preferably with some unsweetened ice tea (aka arnold palmer...yum).

3. Long weekends here & there, or a 2-week vacation? i go for the 2-week vaca. definitely at least once a year.
4. Destination: Acapulco or Hawaii? been to hawaii, twice, so i'd like to see acapulco (among other places)
5. Destination: Mountains or Beach? well, can i cheat on this one? mountains in the winter, beach in the summer! hahaha, okay, if i had to choose just one, i'd say mountains, as long as they're covered with fresh powder!!
6. Hotel/motel/B&B or camping? definitely camping! preferably by a lake!! altho i'd never pass up a chance to stay at a 5-star hotel! ;)
7. Carefully planned vacation, or play it by ear? just carefully planned on how to get there and back, but play it by ear once i get there.
8. Sneakers or sandals? sandals! sneakers are for running.
9. Air-conditioning or fans? AC all the way. i hate being hot!
10. Concerts in the park or baseball games? not a baseball fan really, so definitely concerts in the park!

probably one of the biggest perks from my job are the celebrities and such that visit. like a few weeks ago, i literally almost ran into joe montana and ronnie lott, who were there for a small meeting (joe is much larger in real life, and ronnie much smaller!). not to mention the filming of american pie 3 aka american wedding. this week? the filming of a special to be aired on travel channel! with samantha brown, you know, the annoying chick that has my dream job of travelling the world to find the world's greatest hotels!! so we're all pretty excited to be featured on a 30-minute special! then there are the "stars" that are regulars, barry bonds i hear plays golf there quite often. and pierce brosnan stayed during the grand opening 2 years ago. i know pete sampras has eaten at our restaurant. and there are countless other actors/actresses that just stay the night. i wonder what it's like to work somewhere like the beverly hills hotel! imagine how star-struck i would be!!
