.:: y'om say'n? word. ::.

a friend and former coworker wore this t-shirt on one casual friday, i recall it was orange, and the back of the shirt had the phrase "y'om say'n?" on it. i asked him, "what's that?" his response: "y'om say'n?" and from that day on, everytime he wore that shirt, he'd see me and say "y'om say'n?" and i'd respond with "word."

today i was in an all-day training class, and we had lunch in our restaurant, navio. ohmigawd, it was soooo good, i'm still thinking about it! it was their lunch prix fix menu, used for large parties of 12 or more. for starters i had a chilled smoked trout soup with caviar, some fancy celery and truffle oil. SOOOOO good!!! for my entree i had the best lamb in the world. okay, i hardly ever eat lamb cuz it's just not a flavor i care for. but this was out of this world. soooo good... served with fingerling potato slices and swiss chard. YUM! then for dessert i had warm chocolate bread pudding in coconut gelee and creme fraiche. i was in heaven! i wish i had more opportunities to eat in our restaurant! i ate there once before, during orientation. but this was nothing like then. yumm...i'm starting to salivate.

3 things:

so what'd you give up for lent? even though i haven't regularly attended mass since i was 13, i still like to participate in catholic "traditions." although i do eat meat on fridays (not on purpose, i just don't NOT eat meat on friday, if you know what i mean), i like to give something up on lent, just because. the difficult thing about my "sacrifice" this year is that my eating habits have really changed. i could give up chocolate, but all my supplement bars and shakes are only good with chocolate. and other than that, i really don't eat chocolate anymore. i would give up ice cream, or french fries, or nachos, but again, i don't really eat much of that stuff anymore. i don't drink soda, or coffee, or even alcohol, i only drink water really. i could give up other things, non-food related, but i can't think of anything (common ones are swearing, talking back to your parents, sex...?). well, it's already the day after ash wednesday, so i suppose it's really too late for me to be thinking about this. oh well.

big wave surfers are a-buzz, with very large swells expected tomorrow at mavericks. i've never actually been, even though it's just 10 minutes from the hotel. you can actually see it from the hotel, with binoculars. it's a bit of a hike from PCH, but it's supposed to be worth it. if it weren't for having to be at work, i would totally check it out. those guys (and girls?) are crazy if you ask me, but their insanity makes for a great show! i've actually met the guy who claims to have discovered it, and named it mavericks, after his dog. he works at the HMB brewery. i think he might even own the place...

is it me or is rosie o'donnell looking more and more *manly* since she publicly came out? hmm.

holy crap i think this is the worst storm in the bay area that i can remember. maybe it's just worse on the coast than in the east bay where i grew up...but i thought my car was going to flip over this morning! and that's not an easy thing for a lowered car to do! granted, she probably doesn't weigh very much, and with the rain, it was quite scary at times. i heard el granada had near hurricane-like winds. i just hope the worse is over. the hotel didn't do so well in the storm. we had some major flood damage, with a severely bad leak in the roof, over 70 rooms damaged, and not to mention all the buckets in the back halls collecting all the water! the hotel is less than 3 years old, this shouldn't be happening...

this weekend seemed unusually long. not a bad thing, just weird. friday, i came home after work, took a quick nap, and met up with ML at santana row before dinner with girlfriends. i haven't seen ML in forever. we email occasionally, and meet up even less frequently, but i really enjoy her company. dinner was at maggiano's, which i really didn't care for, and don't really plan to go back (well, not in a large group at least, cuz their "family style" dinner sucks). but it was great to see friends i don't normally see too often. dinner was at 9:15, so by the time we were done, it was midnight. but i really had an itchin to go karaoke! so roommate and i called up her boyfriend and friends and we all met up at our usual spot and sang our hearts out til 3:30am. i haven't stayed out that late in eons! i'm surprised i even made it home alive...scary. remind me to never stay out that late again, especially if i have to drive myself home... :P

i'm getting terribly antsy at work. i'm in a transition, from one job and department to another job in another department. it's very exciting, but the process is slow going, and very irritating. my current boss won't let me go til they find my replacement (which has been posted for weeks and i know they have applicants yet they're not interviewing anyone for whatever reason), and my soon-to-be boss is really anxious for me to start (cuz he knows i'll make a change for the better for this position, haha). it's just even more frustrating that i'm getting tired of my managers. one makes me feel like i'm totally unreliable, cuz he's a super control-freak that checks up on me a million times. his tone is very accusatory too, which doesn't help the situation. my other boss, our new director, is a really cool guy, and brings a nice, fresh, FUN atmosphere to the dept, but i feel like his personal assistant, and his partner's personal assistant, as i run "errands" for them and get personal things done for both of them!! wtf?! i'm a catering professional, not a freakin' personal assistant! this is not what i signed up for. i want out! now!

they still haven't said who the dead body was, or how he got there. i thought it was an interesting coincidence that a boat had capsized yesterday at ocean beach and they were missing one of the passengers...but apparently there is no connection. i think i would freak out sooo bad if i ever found a dead body. how traumatizing is that?!

i love hanging out at bookstores. i always have. mainly cuz i like to read magazines without actually buying them. but other times i like to just browse the books. i used to read a LOT. but after i started college, reading became a drag, and something i only did if i had to. leisure reading totally became obsolete. when i started working, i found that reading on BART was a great way to pass the time (especially when my commute was 45 minn each way) and also a way to detract strange men from striking up a conversation with you (i tried to make it clear that i had no interest in making friends on BART without being rude, but sometimes...). now that i have more "free time" and reading isn't a requirement, i try to read more, but often times, TV watching takes precedence. sad, isn't it? i really should read more. i have 2 books on my nightstand, a book on CD in my car, and i just bought another book yesterday (okay, it's actually a cookbook, but there is some reading involved). :) too ambitious, maybe, but i keep finding more books i want to read. that's a good thing, right?

last night i got a call from a high school friend that i lost touch with several years ago. she's a musical genious. she's travelled the world playing with symphony orchestras with her 2 sisters. she graduated from harvard, and is now getting her masters in germany! what a life. it was soooo great to talk to her, cuz she is such a great person to know. i love reconnecting with long lost friends.

speaking of reconnecting, sometimes i like to read the missed connections on craig's list. pretty funny stuff. i wonder how many ppl have actually been able to connect from using that?

okay, is anyone else american idoled out? it's like a bad accident, it makes you sick at the thought but you can't help but stare! i hate it, yet i can't not watch it! i should just get rid of my tv. yeah right, that ain't happening.

i made the most awesome dinner tonight! i broiled steaks, korean bbq style, served it up with some yummy green beans, all over wasabi mashed potatoes. yum...i'm gonna have to remember this one...

went to SD (actually, Oceanside, just half hour north of SD) this weekend to see w's fam and friends. the weather was sooo nice, toasty warm. people walking around in shorts and tank tops at the beach!! and it's FEBRUARY! good lord. i missed out on a snowboarding trip, but wasn't really bummed about it. all in all, a nice relaxing weekend with some good grub. i started reading a new book that roommate lent me, and it's very very interesting...

so i dragged my lazy butt to the gym this morning, which i haven't done since just before thanksgiving!! i couldn't believe i was able to wake up at 5am. for some odd reason, it's actually easier for me to wake up at 5 than it is at 6, even if i go to bed at the same time. weird... anyways, i was DYING on the treadmill, i think i started off way to intense. i had a momentary memory lapse of not working out for over 2 months! i can't believe i let that much time go by. i need to lose a few pounds before i start trying on wedding dresses. *dread* i don't like the thought of having to spend so much on a dress i'll wear for a few hours and never see again. i think i'm becoming too practical in my old age. ;) hahaha...

okay, i think everyone is making WAY too big a deal over this janet/justin boob incident. the FCC is launching a formal investigation as to whether or not it was planned?! puh-lease, do they really have nothing better to do with their time? it was just her boob, it could've been worse. i didn't actually see it, just pictures/videos, but i really don't think it was a big deal. let's move on with our lives, people. i'm really not a football fan at all. in fact, it's probably my least favorite sport. i've never even heard of the two teams playing. but i was watching the highlights of the game, and it looks like i missed a good one. oh well.
