i totally missed the olympics. i watched
the lighting of the torch (very anticlimactic btw, not to mention the
torch looked like a giant joint). i caught a prelim 400m IM swimming
event (to see what all the hype about this phelps kid was about). and
now it's over, and i didn't even see the closing ceremonies. hmph. oh
well.

the best part about living in a house is
being able to listen to music really loud. :)
i saw the funniest
thing at the hotel this weekend. there was a large wedding, the ppl were
from the hamptons or something and somehow related to "the kennedys,"
and they spent a ton of money on this thing. rumor had it they were
spending $250k at the hotel on rooms and food, and the total cost of the
wedding was close to half a million. sheesh. anyways, i went to check on
their rehearsal dinner, and there it was, a life-sized cardboard cut-out
of the couple. yikes. why would you do that? did they really think that
was cute? hrm.
things are really starting to slow down at the
hotel. not looking forward to it, but i guess now's a good time, with
the wedding getting close, and still so much unpacking to do.

i really wish blogger would quit changing
things on me without warning me first! the new blogger thing up top is
blocking the top part of my blog. i know, it's an easy fix, but
still...it's an inconvenience. grrr.

i love and hate our dish network. i love
it cuz we have all these great channels, but i hate it cuz we have so
many that it takes me half an hour just to find what i want to watch!!
and what does one do with 15 MLB (that's major league baseball)
channels? we also have the bingo channel, which is just weird. the
coolest parts are the sirius satellite radio stations, they have
everything you could possibly want to listen to, it's great!
two
great new discoveries: (1) swiffer wet jet mop. sooooooo cool and easy
to clean. no messy mops or buckets of solution. and you just throw away
the little pad and that's it! (2) mr. clean magic eraser. it really is
magic, it erases EVERYTHING!! how'd they do that?
but this heat,
oh this heat... it's so hot upstairs that the fan in the computer is
super loud. i think it's going to explode any second now. i couldn't
stand it anymore today and turned on the AC (so far haven't had to turn
it on). sad thing is, it's only like low-mid 90's and i know we're
capable of so much wamer. it's also very dry, and my nose hurts. :( but
i'd rather have dry than humid. yuck.

woohoo! we have DSL! and dish network!!
our house is still a crazy mess of boxes and bags and stuff everywhere,
but the 2 most important things are all hooked up and ready to go. of
course we have no furniture, so i'm typing this on the ground which is
really bad ergonomics, but who cares, i have even faster DSL here and
like 50000000 TV channels!! this could be very very bad.

W and i were planning out our move this
weekend, and we realized that sunday is our 5th anniversary, the last
one we have pre-marriage. unfortunately, i have to work that morning,
but i'll be home in time for a nice romantic dinner. i said we'd have to
get some take out and sit on the floor of our empty formal dining room
and spread out some newspapers (since we don't have any dining furniture
yet). and after i said that, i got a flashback memory of me and my
parents. when we first moved to the US, back in 1980, we lived in a
house that was paid for by my dad's employer. they paid for EVERYTHING.
fully furnished house, food, basic necessities. when we moved to fresno
into our first apartment, we literally had nothing. and i vividly
remember not having any dining furniture, so our meals became like
picnics! we ate on the floor, scattered some newspaper so we didn't
spill on the carpet, and ate our meals. it made me smile, thinking of
how far my parents have come since those days. the luxuries they have
now, i wonder if they ever imagined their life would be this
good.

opportunity on the horizon, packing up the rest of our crap, moving said
crap to new house. *phew*
i'm so exhausted, i can't wait til all
