as i was waiting for my haircut appt this
morning, i overheard my stylist talking about a yarn store on main
street!! i asked her for more info, and after i got my haircut, i
stopped by since it was on my way home. i can't believe i'm only now
finding out about this store (it's been open about a year)!! just as
we're about to leave... i met the co-owner and she was super sweet and
helpful in starting my next felted purse
project (sans skull and crossbones). i'm excited to get started, it's
just too bad 100% wool is so friggin' expensive! sheesh.
here's
my tunic
that i recently finished. it actually fits! yea! still not sure about
the colors tho.
and here's the scarf i'm
currently working on.
and someday i will finish this vest. it's kinda
small on me, but my friend S has offered to take it off my hands.
:)
well, that's about what i've been doing with all
my time...

tv shows i just can't stop
watching: 1. miami
ink (makes me want to get another tat...) 2. weeds (another show
about suburban desperate housewives, but not so much death, just more
drugs) 3. family guy (been
catching reruns on TOONS network; can't believe i only just discovered
this, it's hilarious!)
tv shows i look forward to continuing
this fall: 1. lost (the best
season finale, cuz i can't wait wait wait to see the premier of season
2!!) 2. desperate
housewives (love that dark comedy) 3. grey's anatomy
(yeah, another hospital show, but this one has patrick
dempsey!)
new tv shows i just might check out: 1. invasion
(this will either be a really good thriller, or really lame
sci-fi) 2. the
apprentice w/martha stewart (okay okay, i admit i will be watching
this one) 3. my name is
earl (it seems we're moving away from the age of sitcoms, but this
one looks promising)
there are actually more, but i thought 3
was a nice number

well, bucket is gone. and now there is
just a big empty space on our driveway! i hated to part with it (it's
not even my car), but it was just time. it's funny cuz before i met W,
he was literally getting a new car every year, selling, buying, selling,
buying. he didn't do that with this one, he had it for over 7 years,
which is a record for him. it was incredibly easy to sell, which is
good, and we feel we found a good home for it. we wanted someone who
knew about cars, especially about integras, and we got it.
we
have four cars and a motorcycle.

now that we're moving, our biggest hurdle
is trying to find a way to move all our cars 1300 miles. :( so, we've
decided to sell 2 of them, and the first to go is W's integra. we
actually first met because of his integra, his turbocharged
integra, back when i was into all that. and now, after all this time,
even tho i want nothing more than for him to get rid of it (we named it
"bucket" cuz it used to drive like one!) i'm actually sad to see it go.
he cleaned it up real good, with a fresh coat of wax so it would
sparkle. we took some pictures of it and posted it on craigslist, and
literally in 2.5 hours, he got over 30 emails, the first one sent just
minutes after he posted it. woa. we did not expect this kind of response
at all! he asked more than bluebook, and apparently this is a highly
sought after car (i guess cuz it's a gs-r?). one guy wanted to drive out
last night from santa rosa! but we didn't want to wait til midnight for
him. so W's out now, driving around with our first responder.
next to go will be our maxima. W originally bought that car when
he was commuting from south city to pleasanton and wanted a nice,
comfortable, reliable sedan that was cheap and he could abuse. we found
the maxima for quite a deal, and will practically be giving it away to
someone else soon (the value doesn't hold very well). that will leave us
with my integra, his CRX, and our NSX. he plans to drive the CRX til we
get his STI after we move. of course, that is, after we give rusty a
fresh, new coat of paint (he's called rusty for a goooooood
reason!).
i still can't believe we're actually selling our cars!
now we won't be able to shock people when we say, "we have 5 cars...and
a motorcycle." but it will make it a million times easier to move when
we're down to just 3 cars, i'll tell you that.
in other
news... on friday night, we went to the eagles concert with W's dad,
stepmom, stepsister and her husband (and their 17 month old). it was a
"family outing." i'm not a huge eagles fan, but i do like their songs,
only knowing what i hear on the radio and on TV. but hearing them live
was a great experience. i always like to listen to real musicians play
and sing live and these guys did not let anyone down. they played for 3
hours with only one short break after the first hour! i'd sure like to
be on whatever they're on to maintain that kind of energy!! there was a
trumpeter (trumpeteer?) and it only made me want to play the trumpet
even more! (btw, the baby did great - she slept thru the whole thing!
now that's what i call having someone sing me to sleep!)

I HATE ANTS!!!!
they can
smell death, according to my mother-in-law. is there death in my
kitchen?! i guess processed meat product counts as death. gross. last
friday we had a bbq and grilled up some salmon. a small piece fell on
the ground, and literally just minutes later, there was a whole swarm of
ants all over that thing. ew... altho, i would've liked to see them try
to lift that thing and take it back to their campsite.

i want to be a tattoo artist. my parents
would kill me. it just looks like a lot of fun. okay, maybe i've been
watching too much miami
ink lately. i think i'm itching to revisit my love for art. ever
since i was a kid, i loved to draw. i got into anime in jr high and high
school, but haven't done much since then. i think i want to take
painting lessons, oils and watercolor.
oh, and i also want to
learn to play the trumpet. :)

my parents took the news of us leaving
very well. they were very encouraging, agreed that now is the best time
for us to do something like this. my mom was pretty quiet, but i know
she realizes that i can't stay in one place forever.
the last
time i was home, i brought back a box of my baby pictures and my old
baby albums. in the box of pictures i found a small, brown pocketbook,
like a datebook sort of. i opened it up and it had korean writing in it,
my mom's handwriting. i just started reading some of it, and realized
this was my mom's diary, right about the time we came to the US. i put
it aside, planning to give it back to her. but i still have it, and
today, i found it again and started reading. it's so amazing, this
journey they took. i know millions of people do it, move to a new
country, not knowing anybody, learn a new language, culture and
lifestyle and start their new life. but reading my mom's exact words and
feelings that were going thru her mind at that exact moment when they
landed in LAX...it's incredible. i think while she was on the plane,
just after we left our lay over in hawaii, she wrote, "right now, i'm
feeling alright." she has names and addresses of employment agencies,
companies, nursing schools (was she really gonna be a nurse?!), adult
schools to learn english...i could just feel her determination to get
her new life started. it's funny, every so often, she would write a
random word in english. i think this was her way of
practicing.
now, i know our move is nowhere near as big, and i
can't even begin to try to compare. but as anxious i am to move right
now, i wonder what my exact feelings will be like, as we're driving our
moving truck across the country. i imagine it will be a mixture of
sadness for what we're leaving behind (or i should say who we're
leaving behind), and one of excitement for all that lies ahead of us. my
dad kept reminding us that with modern travel and technology these days,
it really doesn't matter where you live, you're always just a phone call
or plane ride away.

another weekend full of cars and racing.
i think we're trying to squeeze in as much as possible before we
move!
friday was a very last minute track day at thunderhill
raceway with trackmasters. it was
okay, not as well structured as nasa events, but still fun cuz
a bunch of W's friends were there as well.
saturday and sunday
we went to the san jose grand
prix, thanks to L who got us 3 day passes with grand stand seating
and paddock passes! it was my godson's first racing event! he seemed to
really like it, but it's hard to tell with an 18 month old.
being out in the sun all weekend really wiped me out. i am so
grateful for AC!!
