holy cow, we had a high of 74 degrees
today! is it really february?! i was hoping for a ton of snow so we'd
have lots of fresh powder this friday when we go boarding! oh well, i
hear the snow is still pretty good up in the mountains, so i'm still
excited. :)

i know some of you have been waiting for
me to post pics of our house, and all the blood, sweat and tears we've
put into it since we moved in. so here are a few pics for your viewing
pleasure.
this is what our family room looked like, when we
first saw the house back in september:
.jpg)
here it is as we prepare to paint the walls "sedona
brown":
.jpg)
and here it is after we put some finishing touches,
added new lighting, replaced the ceiling fan and painted the fireplace
and mantle (it looks like our ceiling is on fire!):
.jpg)
here is the guest bathroom before (left is the
picture from when we first saw the house, right is just before we sanded
the walls and ceiling, repainted, installed new faucets, lighting and
hardware):
.jpg)
here is the new and improved guest bathroom! (altho
you can't really see the new light fixture...it's a million times nicer
than the awful GOLD one that was there before!):
.jpg)
that's all the pictures i have for now. i have to
go put my new desk together...

so things got a little interesting this
week at my temp job.
first, yesterday, i was the only one in the
office for an entire hour. weird. so i just looked for jobs online, and
surfed around. (i came across a really funny knitting
site...too funny. i think this one's my favorite.) then the HR lady had a
"talk" with me. she asked me about my background and what i was
interested in, and she asked if i liked it there. i was honest, told her
i liked the ppl, but didn't see anything for me to do, and really wasn't
interested in construction (which really sucks cuz everything out here
is construction related!). but it was nice to know that she would
consider hiring me permanently, even tho this wasn't a temp to hire type
position. but she mentioned they'd probably need me for this week and
probably next week. i assumed i'd probably be done in the next week or
so...
then today the loud talker guy (who sits next to me and
talks on the phone all day and talks super loud so i can't even think)
got fired!! it was a personal thing, the president of the company just
didn't like him! go figure. so then the HR lady came and we were just
chit chattin, and she mentioned that they might need me a bit longer!
which i don't mind, since i'd rather find a job while i'm temping so i
don't go too long without work again! i felt bad for loud talker guy.
but it's really quiet now. :)

W's mom and sister arrived yesterday.
they're here til sunday. but i feel bad cuz we're both working, but W is
taking a couple days off to hang out. luckily they're pretty low
maintenance so i'm not worried. :)
and we have more visitors
next weekend, yea! the first of our cali friends to visit. now that we
have the subie, we can drive up to the mountains to go boarding without
having to rent a car! i just hope it snows a lot just before J&G get
here!
we've done a lot of little things to the house, hopefully
i'll have time to post pictures soon. we're becoming quite handy!

we were invited over to our neighbor's
house for a dinner party last night. i really like N, she's super sweet
and so friendly (she's the one that made us a lasagna dinner the night
we moved in). and then i realized who she reminded me of! my old boss at
BAL, theresa! but she's not as psychotic and emotional (well, at least
not yet!). they're probably pretty close in age, very petite ladies with
short brown hair, glasses, even the tone of their voices are similar. we
always feel obligated to go to these things cuz we don't want to be the
antisocial new neighbors from california that everyone talks about.
hahaha... but it's just kinda awkward cuz everyone is much older. they
have 15/16 year old kids. sometimes i'd rather be talking about
snowboarding with the girls than about what new land developments are
popping up with the adults. :P and then last night they all started
talking about church!! oh no... so whit and i just sat there, not saying
a peep (cuz what would we say?? we don't go to church!), while they
discussed why they liked one church over another. thankfully they moved
on to another subject that we contribute to. gosh, being good neighbors
is hard work. ;)
but speaking of people from BAL, at my temp job,
i ran into another look alike from my old team! this guy looks just like
eric, and i swear, if it weren't for the voice, i totally would've
thought it was him. tall guy, curly hair, totally could've been eric's
long lost twin, seriously.
okay, we've got a lot of house work
to do today, no more dilly dallying...

we got a new car! yippee! it's officially
my car, but i'm sure we'll both be driving it! W kinda sprung
this on me thursday, as we were driving home from work. we were planning
to get his car first, then my car, the "family car." but he decided it
made more sense to get my car first (for many reasons, but mainly for
financial reasons) and so the search was on. i've had my heart set on
getting a volvo cross country wagon for a while now, and we actually
found a super clean black one with some great options and features, and
for a great price. but the reviews on them were awful...and the last
thing we need is a problematic car. especially since all we've had are
very reliable hondas that have never given us problems. so then i
started looking around. i still wanted a wagon, but there are only a few
out there, and most of them have horrible reviews and customer
satisfaction ratings. then i started looking into mid-sized SUVs (which
is sooo not my style) and we narrowed it down to the infiniti QX4, it's
twin the nissan pathfinder and the toyota highlander. we saw a really
nice 2001 QX4 and decided to go look at it. then this morning W found a
2005 subaru legacy GT limited wagon at the same dealer, for about the
same price! so we headed over, test drove both, debated (they were both
really nice, super clean cars), and in the end, i just felt more
comfortable in the subie. so here she is!
things i love about my new car: heated leather
seats! turbocharged engine (it's got great power!) sportshifting,
right on the steering wheel!! it's like playing GT4! it's a more
"adult" kind of car the really cool 2 part moonroof side mirror
defrosters heated leather seats!!! which is something you really do
need here in the winter, when it's only 1 degree F outside and you're
test driving cars!
i still can't believe we got a new car. this
is just nuts.

Did You Know? Since the Middle
Ages, sweethearts have exchanged valentines on February 14—a date
commemorating the death of a Roman priest named Valentine who performed
forbidden marriages.
was killing time at work and found this article which made me laugh outloud...woops. :) i'm
sure we've all overheard many funny comments like these!
last
night i watched part of the olympics, and caught the women's halfpipe
(man, those girls can fly! i'm jealous!) and the pairs figure skating. i
used to watch figure skating ALL the time, but haven't watched it
probably since michelle kwan first came out on the scene. it makes me
want to learn to ice skate. it's weird how lots of things i see on tv
inspire me to want to do it. even the bowflex commercials make working
out look fun!

okay, i guess it's time for a little
update and some pictures... i guess i'll start with the pictures. so
before i started this temp job, i hurried and finished some knitting
projects.
first, my sweater! it's the big sack sweater from stitch 'n
bitch:
i really wanted to finish this blanket before i
started working again, cuz it was so timeconsuming. but just as i was
almost done, i ran out of yarn and couldn't find it anywhere! finally
found it and was able to finish last week. so here's W's crocheted plaid
blanket! you can't tell from the pic, but it's HUGE. and that's not
where we usually have it. the lighting is better in the living room, and
the family room's a mess right now...
and last, here are the snowflakes i crocheted for
christmas. i didn't get to use them to decorate our house cuz we left
for the bay area and by the time i returned, it was just 2 days til
christmas. but i wanted to finish them anyway, so here they are! they're
crocheted then soaked in fabric stiffener, then pinned on parchment
paper. very timeconsuming, but i love the way they turned out!
in other news, i ate something bad last thursday
for lunch and my stomach has been really unhappy ever since. of course,
i'm not helping it by eating mexican on friday night and pizza on
saturday (oh, and honey chipotle bbq wings!). so now my stomach is doing
somersaults and to add to it, i've developed a headache that won't go
away. grrr... not happy.
yesterday we spent a whole lotta money
to do some work on our guest bathroom, preparing for some visitors
coming in the next few weeks. i'm so excited, but it's gonna be a lot of
work (including sanding off the horrible matte paint they used in the
bathroom, which anyone who's painted a bathroom knows you don't use
matte in a humid room like that, and then painting the ceiling and
walls). also replacing all the hardware and faucets and lights.
eventually we'll put in new tile and get nice new vanities and sinks.
but for now, this will be it. i think it will make a huge
difference!
and the temp job. well, it sucks. seriously, the ppl
there are super swamped with work, so much so that they don't even have
10 minutes to spare. so i can't do my work without knowing what i'm
supposed to be doing. instead, i spend a lot of time playing online, and
pretending to be busy. i helped the contracts administrator with some
things, and the A/P lady has a little data entry project for me to do.
basically, i want out. what to do? i'm "committed" to this project til
they're ready to let me go. i want to just talk to my staffing person
and tell her that this isn't what i signed up for. i don't mind helping
these ppl out cuz they obviously need it, but my skills far exceed data
entry and filing. i might just talk to my temp boss and tell him that i
don't mind helping them out, but i really need to look for a real
job, and this ain't it. as much as i want to help them and my staffing
agency, i really need to look out for me first and foremost. right? so
now i'm rethinking/restrategizing my job search, and hope something good
comes from it. but in the meantime, i won't complain about my $xx/hour.
:)
okay, that's enough for now. here is a little funny i found
while reading the sunday paper...LOL

joyCleeP 12:18 PM [+] :: ... .:: Tuesday, February 07, 2006 ::.
this new job is...okaaaay. i guess it
would be better if they were better prepared. they're just a jumbled
mess, post it notes everywhere, just no organization of thought. and i
can't do my job until they get their sh*t together. so, i spend about 6
hours pretending to be busy, which i've gotten pretty good at! hahaha, i
shouldn't complain, i'm getting paid, right? so, i guess in that sense,
it's good that this is short term. hopefully i can find a permanent job
by the time this one is finished...it's all about timing. but the
commute is great, just about 6 miles from our house (don't even need to
jump on the freeway!), and the ppl are really nice, and i'm out of the
house. oh yeah, and i'm making money! hahaha... can't forget about the
money...
that's all for now, i'm so tired, and it's not even
11pm! this going to bed early and waking up early thing takes some
getting used to.

just when i was ready to throw in the
towel and accept some lame, brainless job, i got one that actually has
something to do with what i actually want to do!
well, it's just
a short-term contract position, but i'm still excited! i'll be working
again, and doing something i'm actually interested in! i'm hoping that i
can "wow" them and they'll have no choice but to offer me a permanent
position, hopefully as a training manager. but i'm not holding my
breath. i'm just excited to be working again. finally!
i will
now go enjoy my last day as a domestic engineer, because i start on
monday!
