well, day 2 and so far so good! not to
toot my own horn, but i've always been pretty good at picking up on the
technical side of my jobs. anytime there was new software or databases
to learn, i got it down pretty quick. luckily this holds true so far for
this job, cuz there is so much to learn, on top of 2 new loan programs
(and one is DOS based so i feel like i'm reading a whole new language
with so many codes and crap). it's really overwhelming, but the girl
that's training me is really helpful and reassures me that i'm doing
great. i processed 5 loans today, the goal is 12 per day. not bad for my
2nd day! :) *pat myself on the back*
the pros of my new
job: 1) 3.3 mile commute door to door 2) really cool and fun
team, and amazing boss 3) huge company, more chances of meeting cool
new friends?? 4) great potential for growth, and i do plan to be a
superstar and make my way up fast! 5) very nice cafeteria and really
cool coffee/tea drink machine thing!
the cons of my new
job: 1) no internet access!!! (aside from sites for credit
reporting, flood insurance, SSN checks, etc...boring) what am i going to
do?!?! i was checking my yahoo email from my phone today! 2) no
parking garage, so the snowy days are gonna be a b*tch of a
walk... 3) no casual fridays. none. they have a "no denim policy."
yuck. luckily it's on a more casual level of business casual, as i've
seen ppl get away with khakis, capris and even "nice" t-shirts. but
still...why can't we at least have fridays??? 4) they are super
strict on the 8-5 with 1 hour lunch schedule. which sucks, cuz i really
liked working 7:30-4 and taking a half hour lunch. it's mandatory that
we take an hour. wtf?! it doesn't take me an hour to eat, and with no
internet, what do i do for 45 minutes? i may just start coming home for
lunch, since i have the time! sheesh. 5) i already miss my old temp
coworkers! haha, silly, huh? it's just different when you work in an
office with 8 ppl, and then go to an office where your team of 15 is one
of 11 teams with at least that many ppl. but i think i prefer the big
company environment.

i'm very excited to start my new job on
wednesday.
*yea!*

today after work, i got myself a library
card! haha, i haven't gone to a public library since high school, maybe
jr. high! my coworker borrows DVDs from the library, for free! so i
thought i'd go check it out, since the lone tree library is just a
couple blocks from our house! i picked up some knitting books, this
should keep me busy for a while. it's pretty neat how "hi tech"
libraries are these days. you just do self-checkouts, no need for
stamping your book. you can renew your books online. all the libraries
in my county are linked, so if i want something from another library, i
just order it online and they send it to my library for me! so
cool...i'm really excited!

first a quick update on the job
situation. my interview was postponed to tuesday cuz of the snowstorm
(when the weather is bad enough, companies will call it a "snow day" and
you don't have to go to work! or school!). it went really well, and the
recruiter had 2 positions she wanted me to consider. they're both in the
approval phase, so hopefully she gets back to me this week. so i could
be starting my new job as early as monday! woohoo! :)
and now a
couple pictures of my latest and greatest! on sunday, while W was
carving down the mountain, i was at home, sewing! hahaha...i've been
wanting to make a tote bag for a while, and had the most brilliant idea
of making one lined with a hello kitty pattern (cuz there are so many
cute hello kitty fabrics at joann's!!). so here it is!
.jpg)
and here is the bolero jacket i just finished
(literally like 30 minutes ago). i modified this pattern and added the sleeves. i used a thicker
weight yarn so it was kinda tricky figuring out the gauge. i think it
turned out pretty well! i may try making another one with a few minor
changes. but this is definitely wearable (sorry about the blurry
pic)...

we welcomed spring with a lovely snow
storm. :) not surprising since march is one of the coldest and snowiest
months of the year here.

W went snowboarding with his friend
today. i decided to stay home, cuz i don't want to risk re-injuring my
tailbone, which does not feel fully healed quite yet. :( the worst part
of all this? it's finally snowing, so i'm sure there's lots of nice
powder! oh well...season's not over yet!
last week we got a flyer
in the mail for a new thai place near us, and we were very anxious to
try it! we had seen other thai basil restaurants around, and reviews on
it were good, so we were excited! after watching v for
vendetta (which was pretty good, but totally not what i was
expecting, especially from the wachowski brothers), we drove around the
mall in search of thai basil. luckily we found it pretty quick. waited
about 20 minutes for a table (it was packed! but later we saw that they
didn't open the upstairs and the downstairs isn't all that
big...creating the illusion of being busy perhaps?). i think this was
their first weekend. they seemed really understaffed, and we sat for a
good 15-20 minutes before anyone gave us water or asked for our drink
order. eh, whatever, it's thai, i wasn't expecting 5 star service. :P we
ordered the tom yum goong soup, spicy garlic shrimp, sriracha beef and
chicken green curry (haha, we weren't exactly starving, we just wanted
lots of leftovers!!). the soup was really good. everything else was,
well, really sweet! it wasn't the authentic thai food we were hoping
for. everything was super saucy, more like chinese, and aside from the
curry, the dishes didn't have that distinct thai flavor...you know, the
lemongrass, basil flavors (even tho it's in the name). and their spicy
dishes had no thai chilies in sight. but overall, it wasn't bad, and i'd
definitely go again. we were both just disappointed that it wasn't REAL
thai food. but then again, the servers were wearing t-shirts that said
"thai basil asian fusion" so i guess that should've given us a big hint,
right?? (altho i wouldn't quite call what they served us asian
fusion.)
the thing that really confuses me about the asian
restaurants here is that they don't just have thai food at the thai
restaurants. most places are a mix of thai/vietnamese/sushi or
chinese/sushi or vietnamese/chinese/sushi. it's kinda nice in case you
want your pho with a side of wontons and spicy tuna roll. but i think it
really jacks up all the ppl out here who don't know any better for lack
of exposure. so they go to a place like SF and eat at a chinese
restaurant wondering where the sushi menu is. it's no wonder so many ppl
don't know the difference between the asian cultures and cuisines...it's
not like the asian restaurant owners here are helping the matter either.
it's actually kind of annoying.
anyways i have 2 fun sights for
your viewing pleasure:
stuff on my cat - funny/strange pictures of stuff on
ppl's cats. haha, i like the cat eating food out of the bowl on his
belly.
helmet cam - something W's friend and brother (and W
for a brief moment at one point) started. it's really cool, they do
extreme sports videography via a little lipstick camera mounted onto a
helmet (or whatever) scroll thru the videos, it's kinda neat (of course
the skiing/boarding ones are my fave!). they even won an award for this video
of C's dog chasing him (or his brother, can't really tell) down the
mountain! that is one fast dog! and this one's cool, they make it look so
easy!!
well, hope everyone had a fun-filled weekend!! i'm very
much looking forward to this week ahead...
::
joyCleeP 7:23 AM [+] :: ... .:: Saturday, March 18, 2006 ::.
i want a seatbelt
bag!! when my temp coworker told me about it, i was picturing
seatbelts with buckles, but they're actually really cool! i've got my
eye on that diaper bag for future use...haha.
so i guess the one
good thing that came out of this lame temp job is meeting K. she's the
AP clerk, my age, we get along great. she looks and sounds just like a
tomboy/skater girl, and it's hard for me to imagine her being the mom of
a 10 month old! but she's made the workday more bearable (especially
those times i had zero to do) and i'm gonna miss working with her.
i have an interview on monday afternoon. i already told my
staffing agency that i was looking for other jobs. my temp company has
an ad out for an office admin, so as soon as they hire someone, they
obviously won't need me anymore (they know i'm overqualified and don't
want the position). and the project i'm working on will be done and off
my desk by tuesday at the latest, maybe monday if the translator ppl get
me the docs sooner. this place i'm interviewing with needs someone to
start ASAP, so this might actually work out well. there are a couple of
really great things about this place already. one, it's a huge company,
so there's lots of room for growth and opportunity to move around. two,
it's REALLY close to our house. we're talking 2.6 miles. can't beat that
for a commute (unless you work from home). :) and last, it's a major
financial house, and will be a great way to kickstart a new career in
the mortgage/lending industry. i'm still trying to figure out what the
heck i wanna do, but after talking to some ppl, i've decided to revisit
the idea of being a loan officer/processor. this position will help me
decide if it's really for me, but will also give me a chance to do
something else if it's not. so, keep your fingers crossed, hopefully
they love me! ;)

does anyone else hate having such a
hectic busy weekend that you don't get that one day to recover?
friday i left work a little early to go to the eye doc to check
out my left eye, which has been a bit fuzzy for the past few days. turns
out it's super dry; so dry that there are tiny little cuts and cracks in
the outer most layer. yikes! so then i had to get my prescription filled
for some antibiotic eye drops, and run other errands (uh, it's a long
story, but it has to do with my new phone), and try to get home by 5:30
so i could eat dinner real quick and pack for our weekend at the track.
our FIRST track event in colorado!
we left just after 6pm and
headed down to pueblo with C&C. this was the first NASA rocky
mountain region event, so no one really knew what to expect. C has been
helping a lot and got us involved to help get things started, sort of.
the weather was cold, but at least it was dry. i was there to help work
the event, and W worked the grid a little and drove when he wasn't
working. after signing ppl in at the entrance gate, i moved over to the
control tower...and this is when i found my calling. hahaha... i was in
charge of the corner workers. when you're on the track, it's hard to see
hazards and things around the turns, so you have flaggers at the corners
to display certain flags, like yellow hazard, white ambulance, green for
go, red for stop, blue w/ orange stripe for passing, and the black and
white checker. it was my job to communicate with them, and they reported
any violations (like aggressive or bad passing, mechanical issues with
the cars, debris on the track, etc). and then i told the instructors
about the violations so they could review them in the meetings with the
drivers. saturday was a bit chilly, but sunday was a whole nother
ballgame. the weather reports were saying it was gonna snow in the
afternoon. then, afer lunch, the super crazy winds (leftovers from all
the tornadoes in the midwest perhaps?) kicked in and i couldn't believe
our corner workers were still out there! what troopers! then it lightly
snowed, thankfully it only lasted about 30 seconds and none of it stuck
to the ground. it just got colder and colder and the clouds rolled
in...not looking good. we sped things up a bit with the schedule and
ended things at 3:30ish. i'm sure our corner workers were very happy to
know they could come inside. oh, did i mention that i was in the nice,
heated, control tower? and if it weren't for the trashcans rolling
around everywhere, including onto the track, i wouldn't even have known
how cold and windy it was! oh, and the bunnies seemed to love the track,
cuz they were not afraid to run across! thankfully, no bunnies were run
over. eek.
i had such a blast. it was fun being on the radio
again (like when i worked at the ritz-carlton). it was neat to be behind
the scenes and be apart of the event, not just riding along or being a
spectator (or camerawoman). and D, the main organizer, seemed happy with
me being at control. so i hope i get to be at the control tower again
next time!
after we packed up and said goodbye to everyone, we
headed back up to denver metro. and that's when things got hairy. it
wasn't snowing yet in pueblo, but it had been snowing a bit in colorado
springs. soon after, we were driving no more than 10 mph, behind a snow
plow truck. it took us about 3 hours to get home. by then, the 4 of us
were starving and grumpy. unfortunately, el azteca was closed (i was
soooo looking forward to a big fat burrito) so we went across the street
to mark pi's asian grille. it was pretty good, and we were all full and
happy. we got home just past 9pm, and i was ready for bed. i was super
exhausted, and soooo didn't want to go to work this morning! and i
actually had a pretty busy day today, which is good cuz if i didn't, it
would've been hard to stay awake! haha...then i'd be like the new fleet
manager that i can hear snoring at his desk!! i don't imagine
he'll be there long if he keeps that up.
i don't have any pics
to share, since we didn't bring a camera knowing we'd be pretty busy
working. but i did manage to take a few shots with my camera phone, so
we'll see how those turn out. there are few professional pics on the
NASA rocky mountain forums page here and here (kinda have to scroll thru the pages a bit) if
you're interested.

yippee! after having the same crappy LG
phone since november 2001, i finally got a new cell phone ! i can't believe it...i actually just
got used to my crappy phone. not being able to hear it ring. ever. and
more recently, not having the phone ring at all, even tho it says it's
set on high. not getting VM's right away. having a dying battery that
only allowed me to talk for about 25 minutes before just going dead with
very little warning. but i didn't care, i don't talk on the phone much
anyway. altho, W was pretty frustrated not being able to get ahold of
me. this new phone is lightyears ahead of my old one, and i have so much
to learn!! i want to make sure i get full use out of this one, so i
don't mind reading the user guide from cover to cover. :) i've never had
a cool phone til now. i feel so fancy!
p.s. my tailbone still
hurts. it hurts to sit, to stand, to walk, especially up and down
stairs, it hurts to get in and out of my car, bend down to pick up
something i've dropped. it just hurts. it hasn't gotten any better in
the past 3 days. should i be worried?

another busy weekend hosting visitors
comes to an end. J&G flew out thursday afternoon for a long weekend
visit. yea, the first of our friends to visit! the only things we know
to do here is go boarding and eat! hahaha...and that's what we did!
thursday we went to this japanese place that W's coworker (who
lived in japan) recommended called kiki's for some japanese home-style cooking. it was
very good, and i definitely want to go back. they had some really neat
dishes with kimchee!!
friday J, W and i went snowboarding at breckenridge. i've heard great things about this
resort, so we were excited. unfortunately, we haven't had much snow in
the mountains in a couple weeks (only about an inch the last week) so
the conditions were far from ideal. we didn't have any discount lift
tix, but this guy approached us with $50 discount tix he bought from the
military base. i was a bit unsure but he said he'd go up the first lift
with us to make sure there were no problems. and luckily there were no
problems. i had a crappy start tho, mostly plowing down icey/packed
powder. then by mid afternoon, i was gaining confidence, maybe a little
too much, and fell on my tailbone really hard. you know, the kind of
fall that knocks the wind right out of you and you just have to lay
there for like 15 seconds to recover. yeah, not so good. but aside from
the fall, it was still fun (altho i'm still in much pain, and still have
trouble sitting). i'd love to go back after a fresh snowstorm. the more
i see skiers, the more i want to try skiing. it seems you don't spend as
much time on your ass. hmm...
that night we tried another new
place that we had heard was really good, this time for soul food/bbq at
M&D's cafe. the portions are huge and the ribs are
the fall-off-the-bone type, and they had some really great desserts.
YUM!!! as W said, it's a good thing this place isn't any closer to our
house, or else we'd be in biiiig trouble...
saturday we decided
to be tourists and went to golden where we toured the coors
brewery. it was actually really interesting, and in the end,
everyone gets 3 free beers!! i had no idea coors made so many different
drinks (including zima!). but i had a weird reaction after i drank a
hard punch zima ice (basically things got all fuzzy and dark and i felt
like i was about to pass out). i know i know, you're all laughing at me
cuz i'm such a feather-weight drinker. but i remembered something
similar happening to me a few years back, when i was at a bar with some
coworkers and got that same fuzzy, dizzy, passing out feeling. it was
really scary then, and just as scary now. so, i think i should not
drink, ever. well, maybe just my itty-bitty drinks that W makes me at
home. at least if i pass out, i'll be at home. :) after the coors tour,
we drove over to downtown denver, visited the capitol building and
walked around the 16th street mall (i told you we were being
tourists!). we had dinner at the wynkoop brewery (yes, more beer!). the food was
very good, and it definitely was a popular place to be cuz it was
packed!
today was our lazy day, we just went to lunch at heidi's brooklyn deli (actually our 2nd time, we ate
there on thursday too, but G really liked it, so we went back which is
fine with us cuz we love heidi's!), looked at new cell phones for me,
did some "window shopping," had hawaiian shave ice with freshly made
frozen custard at CJ's (sooooo good!!) and came back to our house to
karaoke. :D
and now J&G are gone (we had a great time, hope
you guys did too!!), the academy awards are over, and it's so quiet. i
don't want to go to work tomorrow. :( doesn't it suck that i have a temp
job, but i can't just quit?? i mean, i guess i can, but that will make
me look really bad, and the agency look really bad too. i really wish
this stupid project would be done already. *sigh*
