a
friend and former coworker wore this t-shirt on one casual friday, i
recall it was orange, and the back of the shirt had the phrase "y'om
say'n?" on it. i asked him, "what's that?" his response: "y'om
say'n?" and from that day on, everytime he wore that shirt, he'd see
me and say "y'om say'n?" and i'd respond with "word."

on friday, W and i flew out to salt lake
city to go to a NASA racing event at the brand new miller
motorsports park in tooele (just south of SLC). i was asked to go by
our regional NASA directors so i could train with the control guy from
california, but really, i just wanted to check out the new track. it was
amazing! the track is long, just under 4.5 miles. the facility is
awesome, with a ton of garages for the cars to use, and the coolest
control tower ever! the track is pretty flat, so from control, you can
see just about 80% of it (the cars disappear for a bit between turns 1
and 3, and again between 16 and 19). the track will have 22 cameras
(there were only 4 set up), which we can view from the 7 plasma screens.
they even have wifi! and timing and scoring is right next door, which is
very convenient when you need to know who the leader is. we had about
230 cars out this weekend, with several races. my favorite was watching
the formula TR
guys race around the track. it's hard to believe these kids are only
14-16 years old! each weekend costs them about $10k, and they can easily
spend $125k a year doing these races (and that's on the low end). one
kid has already been invited by nascar to race in july at daytona. whoa.
that's some serious talent. it's just amazing watching these kids zoom
around the track! so W and i spent the weekend working the event, since
we didn't want to make the drive out there to then drive some more on
the track. i had a great time, learned a lot, and even got to meet mr.
larry miller, who made all this happen! he's the owner of the utah jazz,
among many other business ventures in utah (i think he owns pretty much
the whole state). he was very down-to-earth and extremely friendly. i
only wish he was able to do this in colorado (which he apparently tried
but couldn't make happen...damn coloradoans). this track was built with
world-class intentions, so they're hoping to get formula 1 races out
there in a few years. and i thought i met dave brown, who used to drive
my favorite opak-spoon integra type r (right hand drive, i
actually sat in it at one of our last thunderhill track days...soooo
cool!!!), but it was his racing partner, dave bon giovanni. darn. but W
got to chat with the actual dave brown at the grid, which is still
pretty neat. :) dave brown now drives an evo. oh well.
anyways,
here are some of the few pics i took...
this was my view from the
control tower!
here's a view of the inside of the control
tower...see the plasmas?
the paddock area
formula TR kids, they're only 14-16 years
old!
so that was our fun-filled weekend in tooele,
utah!
okay, was anyone else totally disappointed with the "will
and grace" series finale?? it fast forwarded thru the next 20 years of
their lives. it wasn't funny at all. it was just stupid. i hate this
time of year...all the season finales. oh well, i guess it's better that
i don't watch so much tv. :P but i was extremely happy with both
"america's next top model" winner and the winning team on "amazing
race." yea!
well that's about it for now. hopefully pfoto
doesn't go down again, sheesh.
can someone please explain to me what
exactly is going on in this picture:
when W's mom and sister were here visiting a few
months ago, his sister went out and bought us some beer. this was one of
them. it's just the weirdest beer bottle label we've ever seen.
on a lighter note, we weren't able to spend mother's day with
either of our mother's, however we had a nice time at the track! there's
a small track in pueblo that is pretty much the only chance we have near
us to do track events, and they're booked solid thru the season since
all the other tracks have closed down (can you believe it?!). but they
have open track days during the weekdays where you can pay $100 for the
whole day, or $60 for half day, to drive on the track. apparently a
group that had the track today cancelled so they opened up the track for
everyone. the day was split into bikes and cars, and we were the only
car, with about 15-20 sport bikes. W felt bad at first, but took
advantage of the solo track time! i even got on the track, since no one
else was using it!
our car, all by itself at the track...
and here is a random picture i found while trying
to upload pictures. W took this at target just after he got his new
pda/phone. we were at target getting some things and came across a "keg"
portable mug (cuz you want to keep your beer cold in the car) and this
swivel tray to hold your food (so you can eat with one hand and drink
your beer in your keg mug at the same time). the picture at the track
was taken from his cell phone too. both our cameras have 1.3 megapixel
cameras, and they work pretty good!
okay, that's all, hope you all had a wonderful
mother's day.
it's kinda hard to tell from the pic, but it's a
3-D pop-up card! my first pop-up card, and it took a lot of planning and
thinking before cutting and folding!
what i'm drinking: arnold palmer, made
with fresh brewed black tea and tangy lemonade from royal crest (they
deliver it along with our milk and other stuff)
what i'm eating:
whole foods honey roasted peanut butter. omg, the best PB i've ever had.
ever. it's just pure honey roasted peanuts, you flick on the switch on
the grinder and voila! instant natural honey roasted peanut butter. so
good. and also lots of skinny cow ice cream cones, and an occastional
frozen custard from CJ's. *drool*
what i'm knitting: socks! lots
and lots of socks. i bought a TON of sock yarn from knitpicks a while back and finally
found a sock pattern i liked that wasn't super complicated.
what
i'm making: mother's day cards for our moms. :)
what i'm reading:
middlesex. i
don't read as much as i should, so i'm only about half way thru it,
since i only read during my lunch breaks at work. and sometimes a little
at home. but it's very very good.
what i'm listening to: a lot of
james blunt and the grey's anatomy playlist from rhapsody.
what
i'm watching on TV: new adventures of old christine, how i met your
mother, america's next top model, amazing race, lost, the office,
desperate housewives, grey's anatomy.
what i'm watching on DVD:
king kong(surprisingly very good, if you haven't seen it, you should),
wedding crashers (i think we're the last ppl on earth to watch this) and
howl's moving castle (the latest and greatest from miyazaki). we went to
blockbuster last night to use a gift card i won from L's baby shower,
and i don't think we'll ever go back. did you know it costs $4.49 to
rent a movie there?! holy crap! no wonder ppl aren't going to video
stores anymore!
when we were in japan a few years back (gosh, has
it been that long?) we took a bus to tour some temples around kyoto. the
guys decided to sit way in the back while L and i decided to stand up
front. the bus was PACKED. we got off first, and waited for the guys.
and waited. and waited... while we waited, i went into a little store
right where the bus had stopped and bought the little hello kitty
dressed as a dragon thing for my cell phone! i don't even think W saw me
buy it. anyway, as you can see from the picture, it's looking pretty
beat up these days (notice the missing nose, dragon horns and parts of
feet). and i was planning to get a new one, but i just haven't gotten
around to it. then i got this in the mail from J! she bought it for me
during her recent trip to seoul. yea! new cell phone dangly thing! i
also have a super super cute totoro one that E got me a while back, but
i knew it would get beat up so i have it hanging on my bulletin board,
where it's safe. :)
**random afterthought...i just
noticed that all 6 of my "random favorites" pictures (right sidebar) are
from japan! what are the chances?!
yea, i'm getting my hair cut tomorrow!
whee! too bad i couldn't find a place near me for cheap. but then again,
i didn't want to just go anywhere, afterall, my hair is short enough,
there isn't much room for mistakes! i just need her to fix what the
other guy did, cuz i don't like it anymore. it's a little too
funky for me... i think i will keep my hair short for a bit longer, get
it outta my system before i grow it out a bit (and by grow it out, i
mean let it get to my shoulders).
