saturday we did chores. indoor chores,
with the exception of W wasching my subie and the nsx. saturday night,
W's aunt and uncle stopped by on their way home from iowa (they live in
arizona). it was nice to see them, this only being the 2nd time ever for
me (the 1st being our wedding). they gave us sweet corn that his aunt
picked from a corn field in iowa. we ate it today, and it wasn't sweet
like i was thinking it would be, but it was still very good. and
fresh!
today we stood out in 100 degree weather at the dragon boat
festival at sloans lake. it was pretty fun, watching the boat races,
eating the yummy food (altho W quickly noticed the lack of korean
representation!), checking out all the various vendors. there was lots
of food to eat, but we just had tibetan potstickers (deeelicious!), thai
chicken kabobs and shrimp spring rolls. oh, and a huge helping of
hawaiian shave ice. of course they didn't offer to put a scoop of ice
cream at the bottom, but it was still nice and refreshing, especially
out in the sun! after watching 3 races, i couldn't take the heat
anymore, so we left. the dragon boat festival reminded me of our lantern
festival days in sorority. only on a much much bigger scale. there was a
little stage with performances (we didn't see any, but i saw a group of
little chinese girls getting ready to dance, so cute!), lots of good
food, tons of ppl enjoying it all. it's just too bad it was so damn hot.

lately, i've been listening to a lot of
R&B/neo-soul. thanks to "so you think you can dance" i've gotten
into goapele and ne-yo (love that "sexy love"--is he considered hip
hop?). also digging floetry, thanks to rhapsody! but my favorite CD right
now is nelly furtado's
"loose" (i think she's more pop). it's very catchy and good work-out
music! so different from her "i'm like a bird" days.
speaking of
"so you think you can dance," i'm very disappointed with yesterday's
results show!!! i can't believe my two favorites were the bottom two.
and the girl i predicted to win is out! but seriously, all the dancers
now are so good, i don't know how they're gonna choose a winner.

the highlight of my trip was being able
to see everyone i wanted to see (L and my godson on friday, I for her
baby shower and J, S & M for dinner/poker/sleepover on saturday, and
M and L&D and their new baby on sunday, and of course spending some
time with the 'rents.).
the lowlight of my trip was baking in
triple digit heat without AC! the bay area was a gigantic oven this
weekend, and i was pretty much hot/sticky/cranky for most of my trip. i
definitely could not wait to be back home in my air conditioned house!
i miss being close to my friends and family and being able to
see them whenever i want, but i really don't like the bay area anymore.
i think i've just become too accustomed to the denver pace of life, and
i just like it out here so much more. who would've ever thought??

i get to work by 8am. but our first mail
drop isn't til about 9:15 or so, sometimes later. i can't start my work
til we get mail (all those new loans to process). so for about an hour
or more each morning, i kill time reading about what's going on in the
bay area on sfgate.com.
today i came across this article about blogging. i don't consider myself a
journalist in any way, shape or form, but i don't know if this is my
creative outlet either. i guess in some ways it is, afterall, i chose
blogger so i could practice my html. of course i really don't do much
practicing anymore. and i guess it allows me to publish my creativity in
the form of my knitting and crafts. but i don't know if blogging
is a creative outlet for me. i don't even really know why i blog. at
first i was thinking it was a fun way to stay in touch with friends who
i don't see or talk to often, so they can see what's going on with me
when they feel like seeing what's going on with me. when i started my
blog, i never imagined i'd be here, almost 30, still with a blog. i
thought for sure i'd get sick of it, neglect it (like so many of my
blogging buddies throughout the years), and forget all about it. well,
here i am, almost 4 years later, and this thing is still up and running,
and i still have visitors. not hundreds like the girl in the article,
but i do get an occasional reader from italy or canada or south africa.
i don't know that any of them are really loyal readers tho.
maybe this is sort of a way to fulfill that wannabe-journalist
side of me. since i was really little, i loved writing, and even thought
for a while that i would be a journalist or writer of some sort. i think
college really screwed up my writing style, as i became much more of a
technical writer. i remember my creative writing professor telling me my
writing was too boring, and it needed more color. at first i was really
offended, but i knew she was right. i had just gotten so used to
presenting the facts in the clearest, concisest (??) way i could, that i
forgot what creative writing was all about. now, i think i'm the
opposite in my writing. i don't remember how to be concise anymore, i
can go on and on describing something, to the point where i think my
readers get bored (even i get bored reading it afterwards). but i also
use this for myself, to sort of remember what i'm thinking or doing or
discovering. because this is such a public space, i try to maintain some
sense of anonymity, but i am much more candid in my LJ which is friends
only (i blogged my body for life progress as well as my wedding planning
there). i started my first paper diary (remember those??) when i was 8.
i got a cabbage patch journal for my birthday. i still have that
journal, with all my 8-year-old scribbles and ramblings. and funny
thing, i kept a journal all the way up until i started this blog. in
fact, i may have had a few entries after i started blogging. i think
having some sort of journal will always be with me. like the million
pictures i take, journalling allows me to remember what i was going thru
at a certain point in my life. i know a picture is supposed to say a
thousand words, but i think journalling helps me relive certain moments
in my life that become a bit fuzzy after time. cuz we all know i have a
horrible memory.
i don't know how much longer i'll have this
thing. but i don't see me stopping in the near future. the content of my
blog is evolving, but i'm sure i'll find a use for it, as long as there
is someone out there wanting to read about it!
alrighty, off to
california i go!

malan seriously needs to get kicked off. he really
creeps me out, especially when he starts laughing all crazy. he
introduces himself and then adds that he was born in taiwan. so where
did he get his fake british accent?? what a freak! whenever i watch
project runway, i get a sudden inspiration to sew.
i'm soooo
excited about my trip to california this week! woohoo!!!

random thoughts on
friday
today my team at work had christmas in july! we had a
little potluck (actually, there was a TON of food) and a secret santa
gift exchange. everyone else was jealous cuz we have fun on our team. :P
haha...
i'm very excited about my new treadmill. whee! it arrives
on monday. i really need to do something about my current situation... i
try to eat right (okay okay, i have more than an occasional cookie here
and there, but for the most part, my meals are very low fat/low calorie)
and i try to exercise at least 3 times a week. but i feel like i'm
gaining weight. i do a lot of running around at work. and now that it's
warmer (or i should say HOT), we're trying to do more outdoor
activities. so why am i so fat?! is it because i'm turning 30????
sh*t.
my friend told me about this website. it's soooo
funny! they sell bags and t-shirts, but their comics are funny.
haha...angry little girls...
and i'm not too happy with last
night's "so you think you can dance" results. do they really think
dmitry has more potential than musa?! i dunno...i think dmitry's next.

i predict that chris porter will be the
last comic standing.
i still haven't decided on who will win "so
you think you can dance." but my favorites are alison and natalie. i
think the right ppl are getting kicked off, cuz all the dancers left are
really great!!

for our first 4th of july here in
colorado, we spent the morning hiking at the bluffs regional park which
is right by our house. it's about a 3 mile trail that loops around a
plateau with some really great views of downtown and the surrounding
areas. on a really clear day, you can see all the way to DIA (airport).
unfortunately there was very little wind that morning and it was just
too smoggy. but, we did have our first rattlesnake encounter (i hear the
bluffs is filled with them, yuck). W insisted on taking a picture. i was
mortified.
the city of lone tree had a big fireworks display at the park
near our house, but it was rained out. just as the weather ppl said, the
rain started coming down around 8pm, as we were leaving C&C's house.
as we got to our house, you could see all the ppl running to their cars.
they rescheduled the fireworks for the 5th, and lucky us, we only had to
go as far as our deck to watch them. :)
it's been raining a lot
here, which we're so not used to in the summer! you really have to
schedule your whole day around the afternoon thunderstorms. it usually
doesn't rain that much, but since last sunday, it's been pouring!! but
only in the evenings. so strange... last sunday, it even hailed a
little. none of that golf ball sized stuff, just the little pea sized
stuff.

hurray! (another one!) W and i are now
legally endorsed to ride a motorcycle! this weekend we took a riding
course in hopes of getting our motorcycle licenses (finally...W has been
riding with a permit for a looong time, and i was supposed to get my
license 5 years ago but never did). so we finally decided to just fork
over the cash and do it! this class was nice cuz they really focus on
getting you as much riding time possible, so we really only spent a
couple hours in the classroom going over basics, then spent most of
yesterday and all of today on the bikes. i was a bit nervous for my
evaluation cuz i just couldn't do the little figure 8 in the box, but
the instructor told me not to focus so much on staying inside the box,
and just focus on properly making the tight turns. so i did, and it
worked! i only got docked 3 points total for going outside the box.
woohoo! now i just need to go and get me a bike! i was originally
thinking of getting an older model yamaha R6, mainly cuz it's one of the only 600s i can
actually sit on with my feet planted. but now i'm thinking it might be
wiser to get a smaller bike, maybe kawasaki ninja 250 or if i'm feeling brave, the ninja
500 (just like the one jessica alba had on "dark angel!" haha). that way
i can practice my skills before getting a bigger bike. decisions
decisions... :)
